Bhubaneswar: Several competitions among visitors and a fruit feast was organised for the elephants inside Nandankana Zoological Park on the occasion of 13th World Elephant Day on Saturday.
The zoo staff including Forest officials organised a function on the day particularly for the visitors and wildlife enthusiasts. Offline and online quiz competitions on wildlife particularly elephants, slogan writing on their protection and conservation, drawing competition among the children were held on the occasion.
Deputy director of the zoo Sanat Narayan said a signature campaign was also held on preventing elephant-human conflicts that lead to casualties on both sides. The participants were given e-certificates and the winners of top three positions were felicitated with awards.
Three elephants in the zoo – Basanti, Heera and Mama – were treated to a feast of fruits in the elephant safari. A three-month-old calf named ‘Abhi’, who has been kept in isolation, was also fed by the zoo staff. A documentary on the elephants and their lifestyle was also screened.
