New York: India is closer to the bottom than top of the list in the World Happiness Report 2022, released by the United Nations on Friday.
Significantly, India is ranked below countries like Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
The report, issued annually by the UN’s Sustainable Development Solutions Network, has India at No. 136 out of 146 ranked countries.
Nepal occupies the 84th place, Bangladesh is at 94, Pakistan 121 and Sri Lanka 127. Afghanistan is right at the bottom.
Finland has been found to be the happiest country on earth for the fifth straight year.
Finland is followed by Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland and The Netherlands.
There are no Asian countries in the top 20.
The latest edition of the report, released two days before the annual International Day of Happiness, ranks countries on factors like personal sense of well-being, levels of GDP, life expectancy etc.
A score is assigned on a scale of 0-10, based on an average of data over a three-year period.
