Bhubaneswar: Voice of SOA Community Radio 90.4, the community radio station of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA), aired a special programme to mark World Menstrual Hygiene Day on Tuesday.
The programme titled ‘Period Friendly World’ aligned with this year’s theme for the day, which is observed globally on May 28 every year. The idea is to raise awareness on menstrual health and focus on the importance of recognising the complete physical, mental and social wellbeing of women and girls in relation to the menstrual cycle.
SOA’s Controller of Examination Prof. Manjula Das distributed eco-friendly sanitary pads to the female housekeeping staff of the SOA Deemed to be University.
Honey Patnaik, In-charge of the radio station, emphasised the importance of such awareness programmes.
“These programmes help in breaking the stigma around menstruation and ensure that women have access to the necessary hygiene, she said.
Radio Jockeys Subhashree Subhasmita Swain, Subhashree Patra, Subhashree Sahoo coordinated the programme.
