New Delhi: A surge in coronavirus cases in several countries has prompted India to take serious note of the situation and explore possible consequences in the country.

Among the measures being considered by Indian government is to restart random COVID-19 testing of international passengers, ANI reported.

The Union Health ministry reviewed the COVID-19 situation at a top-level meeting on Wednesday, following a sharp spike in cases in countries like China, the United States, South Korea, Brazil and Japan.

Three cases of Omicron subvariant BF.7, apparently the strain driving China’s current surge of Covid cases, have been detected in India so far, officials said on Wednesday, according to news agency PTI.

Three cases of the new BF.7 subvariant have been detected in India — two in Gujarat and one in Odisha.

Union Health minister Mansukh Mandaviya said today that COVID was not over yet, but the government is prepared to manage any situation.

Niti Aayog’s Dr V K Paul urged people to take the precaution dose of COVID vaccine, saying that only 27-28% have taken the third dose.
