Worst-Hit Maharashtra Seals State Borders To Contain COVID-19 Spread

Mumbai: With confirmed coronavirus cases in the state touching 89, the Maharashtra Government on Monday announced sealing of the state borders with immediate effect.

Speaking about the preventive step, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said, “Observing the Janata Curfew for a day does not end our responsibility, in fact it is siren call for the war we have to fight. We have now decided to impose curfew across the state. Nobody will be allowed to venture out of their homes unless it is an emergency.”

After a high level meeting with the ministers, the Maha Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday addressed the people of the state through Facebook Live and announced a list of precautionary measures which need to be followed to stay safe from the infectious virus.

Warning the people about the uncontrollable disease, Thackery said that people need to be well-prepared to face this critical situation. “We are in a decisive stage of coronavirus outbreak. It can be turning point. If we don’t stop it now, the situation may go out of hand,” said Thackeray.

The state government has also ordered for closure of all religious places. However, only the priests taking care of the shrines have the permission to enter the places of worship. The CM also directed that not more than 4 to 5 people should be out on the roads. Public and private buses will not be allowed to ply, whereas taxis and private cars will be allowed to carry only 2 people and autorickshaws can carry only one passenger at a time. Only police, doctors, pharmaceuticals, grocery shops and agricultural related units will remain operational.
