New Delhi: Some of India’s top wrestlers have been fighting a prolonged battle for justice against outgoing national federation chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
Well, they have got into another confrontation – against a fellow wrestler.
And it’s more about politics than sport.
Commonwealth Games gold-medallist Babita Phogat, a BJP leader, hit out against Sakshi Malik and her wrestler-husband Satyawart Kadian, who on Saturday released an 11-minute-long video (The Truth) detailing the agitation against sexual harassment-accused Brij Bhushan from Day 1 till today.
Sakshi and her husband claimed that Babita and another BJP leader Tirath Rana had given the wrestlers permission for the sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar in January.
Dismissing their claim, Babita said the two are “puppets in the hands of the Congress.”
In a lengthy post in Hindi on her Twitter handle, Babita stated there was no proof of her consent on the permission paper shown by Sakshi in the video and said it was not even remotely connected to her.
Babita contented that she was not in favour of the wrestlers’ protest from the beginning, and had repeatedly advised them to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the matter and get a solution.
“But instead, they sought help from Congress leaders like Priyanka Gandhi, Deepender Hooda and others, who themselves are guilty in many cases,” Babita alleged.
Saying that the grapplers’ proposed march to the new Parliament building on May 28 and their plan to immerse their medals in Ganga had embarrassed the nation.
“The people of the country have understood that you have become a puppet in the hands of the Congress. Now the time has come to tell everyone your real intention because now the public is asking you questions,” Babita wrote.
