New Delhi: A khap delegation will meet President Droupadi Murmu and government officials to seek justice for protesting wrestlers who are demanding the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
A BJP MP, Brij Bhushan has been accused of sexually abusing female wrestlers.
“A khap delegation will meet the President and the government. The Khap and these women (protesting wrestlers) won’t be defeated. More decisions will be taken at Kurukshetra tomorrow,” Rakesh Tikait, one of the leading farmer leaders, announced on Thursday.
Khap representatives from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Delhi met in Muzaffarnagar’s Soram village on Thursday to discuss the ongoing protest, led by top women wrestlers.
Tikait said the fight will continue till the wrestlers get justice.
Two days ago, farmer leaders convinced Tokyo Olympics bronze-medallist Bajrang Punia, Rio Games bronze-medallist Sakshi Malik and double World Championship bronze-winner Vinesh Phogat not to immerse their medals in the Ganga in Haridwar, and gave the government five days’ time.
“The medals (won by the agitating wrestlers) are a heritage of the nation, of children of India and of the national flag,” said Tikait.
“If the need arises, the medals would be returned to the President of India,” he added.
