Xiaomi has launched the successor to its popular Mi A1 – the Mi A2. The company has also unveiled a cheaper version of the phone, the Mi A2 Lite.
However, only Mi A2 will be launched in India.
Like Mi A1, this phone also has a stock Android interface. It comes pre-loaded with 8.1 Android 8.1 Oreo and being part of the Android One initiative, it will receive quick updates. Xiaomi has fitted vertically aligned dual rear cameras.
The Mi A2’s 4GB RAM/32GB storage model has been priced at EUR 249 (roughly Rs. 20,100), 4GB RAM/64GB storage one is priced at EUR 279 (roughly Rs. 22,500) and the 6GB RAM/ 128GB storage version will cost EUR 349 (roughly Rs. 28,100). The Mi A2 Lite, on the other hand, will begin at EUR 179 (roughly Rs. 14,400).
The phones will be available in Spain from August 10, in France from July 27 and in Italy from August 8. Both the phones will be available in Black, Blue, and Gold colour options.
The Mi A2 features a 5.99-inch screen with 18:9 aspect ratio and 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass for protection. It is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 660 SoC and Adreno 512 GPU.
Xiaomi is betting big on the cameras of this device. It claims the AI dual camera integration will help in making photos better. Xiaomi is also hopeful that the A2’s 20 MP Sony sensor with f/1.75 aperture and soft LED flash ‘AI Selfie Camera’ will deliver exceptional selfies. The rear camera setup has a 12-MP primary Sony IMX486 sensor with f/1.75 aperture and 1.25-micron pixels, and a 20-MP secondary Sony IMX376 sensor with the same aperture but 2-micron 4-in-1 Super Pixel size. There is phase-detection autofocus and dual-tone LED flash along with a host of AI features such as scene recognition, portrait mode, background bokeh and smart beauty 4.0.
The Mi A2 has Facial Unlock as well as a fingerprint sensor on the back.
It has a 3010 mAh battery and supports QuickCharge 3.0 that tanks it up from zero to 50 percent in 30 minutes. It has USB type C connectivity but there’s no 3.5 mm earphone jack this time. The phone measures 158.7×75.4×7.3 mm and weighs 168 grams.
The Mi A2 Lite has a slightly smaller 5.84-inch full-HD+ (1080×2280 pixels) display with a 19:9 aspect ratio and a notch unlike the A2. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC, paired with 3GB or 4GB of RAM with storage options of 32GB and 64GB.
