Bhubaneswar: The active participation of youths with the government is the way forward to a smarter, futuristic, inclusive living, said Suryavanshi Mayur Singh Additional Commissioner BMC on Friday.
He was speaking at a brainstorming session on “A dialogue between young Indian achievers and governance institutions of urban and rural local bodies on participatory models of governance” organised by Young Indians Bhubaneswar Chapter in the collaboration with Youth20 (Y20) engagement group. Young Indians is the official host to G20YEA & Y20 Engagement group.
“Odisha has led by an example in participatory governance, where citizen inputs are being taken from all points, with Twitter, social media and even helpline numbers readily accessible to let citizens express their inputs,” said Singh.
Yi Bhubaneswar Chair Vishal Dalmia and Co-Chair Sonal More along with Team Yuva Yi members organized the Y20 Brainstorming session at Centurion University.
Besides Singh, Supriya Pattnaik, vice-chancellor, Centurion University; Priyadarshi Mahapatra, founder of Cure-bay; Dr Debi Project manager, PWM UNDP and Dr KVD Prakash, Dean HRD attended the session.
Various topics were discussed during the session. “It is important to understand how things were 5 years back” and “How things will be 5 years down the line with respect to the municipal corporation/sector” were the topics.
The panel discussion was held on themes like “What are the reforms that the sector is planning in the context of a participatory model of governance”, “General question which would be close to the heart of the youth” and “What skill sets should they possess to be relevant in the future”.
