New Delhi: Former Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha claimed on Monday that he had been “arrested” by Delhi police for demanding that migrant workers be sent home safely. The former BJP leader said Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh had been arrested along with him.
“We have just been arrested by the Delhi Police,” tweeted Sinha on Monday evening.
Sinha sat on a dharna at Rajghat, wanting deployment of armed and para military forces to take migrant workers home. Migrant workers, stranded in several states due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown, have claimed that they were being left on their own. Many of them have died while trying to walk home, thousands of miles from their workplace.
Sinha was protesting against the treatment meted out to the migrants.
