Yearender 2024: 10 Big Budget Indian Films That Bombed At The Box Office

Mumbai: While the year 2024 saw quite a few blockbusters, some big budget highly-anticipated Indian films turned out to be disastrous at the box-office. Here is a list of ten biggest duds of the year:

1. Vettaiyan: The Rajinikanth starrer, made on a budget of ₹300 crore, was one of the most expensive films of the year. Despite the superstar’s huge and loyal fanbase, the film managed to collect only ₹148.15 crore, thereby becoming one of Rajinikanth’s most significant film failures over the years.

2. Maidaan: The sports drama with Ajay Devgn in the lead role, made on a budget of ₹100 crore, minted only ₹52.50 crore. Despite an engaging plot and star cast, the film flopped at the box office.

3. Bade Miyan Chote Miyan: The action comedy starring superstars Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, made on a budget of ₹300 crore, was a highly anticipated film of 2024. While the film was lauded for its action sequences, its predictable storyline and lack of emotional appeal left the audience disappointed. The film managed to mint only ₹59.25 at the box office.

4. Kanguva: Starring Suriya in a double role, the ₹300-crore film was visually appealing and highly-anticipated. However, the film fell short of expectations and received mixed reviews, with a collection of ₹105.2 crore.

5.Indian 2: Starring legendary actor Kamal Haasan, ‘Indian 2’  was made on a budget of ₹250 crore.  Even after flawless performance, the film was criticised for its screenplay and execution, and managed to collect only ₹150 crore.

6. Yodha: Inspired by real-life incidents of plane hijacking, the Siddharth Malhotra-starrer ‘Yodha’ was made on a budget of ₹60 crore. The film received positive reviews from audiences, but managed to mint only ₹32.50 crore at the box office.

7. Jigra: The Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina starrer ‘Jigra’ made headlines for controversies rather than its performance. Divya Khossla called out the Jigra makers for copying the storyline of her film Savi. Divya even alleged that Alia faked box-office collections as the theatres were running empty after Jigra release. The film, made on a budget of Rs 80 crore, received mixed reviews and managed to collect only ₹31 crore.

8. Chandu Champion: Directed by Kabir Khan, the biographical sports drama ‘Chandu Champion’ featuring Kartik Aaryan in the lead role, was made on a budget of ₹90 crore. The film received positive reviews but collected only ₹88.14 crore.

9. Khel Khel Mein: Based on the 2016 Italian film ‘Perfect Strangers’, Khel Khel Mein stars Akshay Kumar and Taapsee Pannu in lead roles. Made on a budget of ₹100 crore, the film was a dud at the box office as it collected only ₹47 crore.

10. I Want To Talk: The Abhishek Bachchan starrer ‘I Want To Talk’ was one of the highly-anticipated films of the year. Made on a budget ₹40 crore, the film managed to mint only ₹2.50 crore.
