Bhubaneswar: Seven districts, including Khurda and Cuttack, in Odisha are likely to experience thunder-squall with wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph till 8,30 am on Thursday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD, in a special bulletin on Wednesday, said that meteorological conditions are becoming favourable for thunderstorm activity with gusty surface wind in Odisha till May 6, when a low-pressure is likely to form over the South Andaman Sea and the neighbourhood. The system is likely to move northwestwards and intensify gradually into a Depression during the subsequent 48 hours.
Under its influence, thunderstorm and rain are likely at several places in the state till 8,30 am on May 8.
Till 8.30 am on May 5
While thunder-squall with wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places in Bhadrak, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Khurda and Puri during the next 12 hours, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph are also likely one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Dhenkanal, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri. Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khorda, Puri, Nayagarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Rayagada and Boudh during this period.
The MeT office has also forecast light to moderate rain or thundershower for many places in coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and a few places in the rest of the state.
From 8.30 am on May 5 to 8.30 am on May 6
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Kandhamal. Thunderstorm with lightning are also likely to occur at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur.
Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places in coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and at a few places in the rest districts of Odisha.
From 8.30 am on May 6 to 8.30 am on May 7
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Dhenkanal. Thunderstorm with lightning is also likely to occur at one or two places in Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Kandhamal and Boudh.
During this period, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places in coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur and at one or two places in remaining parts of the state.
From 8.30 am on May 7 to 8.30 am on May 8
Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and Koraput.
Light to moderate rain or thundershower is also likely at a few places in coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur and at one or two places in the rest districts of Odisha.
Rainfall activity is likely to continue for the subsequent 24 hours in coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput, the IMD added.
