New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday shifted five party MLAs to Chennai fearing poaching by the BJP.
Congress MLAs, Sankalp Amonkar, Alton Dcosta, Carlos Alvares, Rudolf Fernandes and Yuri Alemo have been shifted to Chennai. Sankalp Amonkar is a member of the Goa Legislative Assembly and Deputy Leader for CLP, India Today reported quoting sources.
The MLAs were shifted to Chennai on Friday evening after the assembly proceedings were over for the day. The development comes ahead of the presidential polls that are slated to be held on July 18.
Digambar Kamat told India Today, “I have no comments to offer on this matter. I don’t have any official responsibility in the party now, so I can’t comment on this. The MLAs could have been called to Chennai to meet someone.”
A senior Congress leader told news agency PTI that all these MLAs flew to Chennai directly after the session got over on Friday. The leader also said that they would return to Goa directly to take part in the presidential polls.
Notably, the monsoon session of the Goa Assembly started on July 11 and will continue till next Friday.
