Brazil: On the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Brazil, External Affairs minister S Jaishankar received warm compliments from Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. The Indonesian President praised Jaishankar as he and Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived for a bilateral meeting. The Indonesian President told Jaishankar as the latter introduced himself, “I know you, you are very famous.”
Following the praise, PM Modi chuckled as Jaishankar and Subianto shook hands and then the trio proceeded for the bilateral meeting. Jaishankar has been credited for shaping an assertive foreign policy while navigating various geopolitical challenges.
The Indonesian President and PM Modi discussed cooperation in sectors such as trade and commerce, health, and security. This was the first meeting between the two leaders after the election of Prabowo Subianto.
“The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties in the framework of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Both leaders noted that India and Indonesia are commemorating 75 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations and called for celebrating the occasion in a befitting manner,” the MEA mentioned in a statement.
