New Delhi: After innovative ventures such as non-sexual cuddling sessions to hiring a boyfriend on rent, comes a rather unconventional method has emerged to alleviate stress in Tokyo offices. The employees undergoing a difficult period are now renting “Handsome Weeping Boys” for 7,900 yen (roughly Rs 4,000).
Apart from their superficial looks, these professionals offer specialise in wiping tears, providing comfort through shared emotional experiences and helping develop deeper connections in the workplace. This unique initiative is based on the principle of rui-katsu or “tear-seeking”. Its primary goal is to establish an environment where emotional expression is not merely tolerated but honoured.
Interested individuals can access this service through an online catalogue featuring a diverse array of “Ikemeso Boys.” The catalogue presents a wide range of options, from the rugged ‘Showa face adult Ikemeso boy’ to the refined ‘healing Mista-Tokyo Ikemeso boy’.
Each professional is skilled in delicately wiping tears, engaging in sobbing sessions, and even watching poignant videos to encourage the expression of emotions. Customers have the liberty to choose their preferred “Ikemeso Boy” from this selection to fulfil their emotional needs.
The “Ikemeso Danshi” comprises men from various professions. As reported by the BBC, among them is a trained dentist who pursues this as a sideline, along with individuals playing roles such as gymnast, funeral director, and more.
This innovative concept was initiated by crying workshop founder Hiroki Terai. His main objective is to encourage emotional expression among Japanese people. “I have always been interested in the hidden sagas of human beings,” he said. Hiroki established this crying business back in 2013, aiming to facilitate a space where individuals can openly express their emotions.
“I know that after you cry and let people see your vulnerability, you can get along even better with people which is also good for the company. It creates a better working environment and people get along better,” Hiroki added.
