New Delhi: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev and his associate Acharya Balakrishna once again apologised before the Supreme Court in connection with Patanjali misleading advertisement case.
A bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah gave them a week to prove they were truly apologetic.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi assured SC that his clients would take steps to redeem themselves in the eyes of the law and the public.
Hearing the case, the Bench summoned Ramdev to the front of the courtroom and asked him why he had continued to advertise his herbal medicines despite the Union government recommending an investigation against them under the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act.
Justice Kohli asked Ramdev whether it was right to point the finger against other fields of medicine like allopathy, and claim his company’s medicines were far superior to them. The court said it was “irresponsible behaviour”.
“You are doing good work but you can’t degrade allopathy,” said the court.
Ramdev folded his hands and said he would be prudent in future. He also admitted that he might have been carried away at some point. Balkrishna said it was lack of knowledge on his part and he has realised his faults.
“You are not so innocent that you didn’t know what we said in earlier order,” the court said and granted Ramdev, Balkrishna, and Patanjali one week to issue a public statement.
The next hearing is on April 23.
