New Delhi: Similar to air travel, you will now be charged for carrying extra baggage on trains. If you are caught carrying excess luggage without booking, you will be charged six times the normal rates.
Here are the new luggage rules:
AC First Class
Free allowance: 70 kg
Marginal allowance: 15 kg
Maximum quantity permitted: 150 kg
AC 2-Tier Sleeper/First Class
Free allowance: 50 kg
Marginal allowance: 10 kg
Maximum quantity permitted: 100 kg
AC 3-Tier Sleeper/AC Chair Car
Free allowance: 40 kg
Marginal allowance: 10 kg
Maximum quantity permitted: 40 kg
Sleeper Class
Free allowance: 40 kg
Marginal allowance: 10 kg
Maximum quantity permitted: 80 kg
Second Class
Free allowance: 35 kg
Marginal allowance: 10 kg
Maximum quantity permitted: 70 kg
The maximum baggage limit includes free allowance.
