Nabarangpur: An 18-year-old girl was molested and forced to get married by a group of youths of a village in the district recently.
The matter came to light after the girl’s family lodged a complaint with Raighar police on finding that the recorded video of the incident was circulating in the area.
According to the complaint, the girl from Chittabeda village under Raighar police station had gone to Sonepur DNK village with her brother-in-law to celebrate Kali Puja on November 7. While she was with a friend in the backyard of the house at night, her sister’s brother-in-law Prasanjit Haldar forcibly took her to an unknown place.
She alleged that several youths at the place assaulted and groped her while the incident was recorded on mobile phone. Later, they forcibly got her married to Prasanjit. Even as the girl begged them to stop and cried for help, the youths were enjoying the whole incident and recording it in their cell phones, she added.
Though the girl returned to her house and revealed the matter to her family members. they did not approach the police. A day after the incident, they came to know that the video of the incident had been made public and filed a complaint at Raighar police station.
The police have registered a case and launched a search operation to nab the accused.
