Cuttack: A young girl reportedly committed suicide by jumping into river Mahanadi in Odisha’s Cuttack city on Friday.
According to sources, the girl wearing jeans and kurta of red colour came to Mahanadi near deer park in the city in the evening and jumped into the river. Some locals, who saw the girl committing the act, informed the police.
A team from Commissionerate Police along with Fire personnel reached the spot. They brought the girl, who was unconscious, from the river and sent her in an ambulance to SCB Medical College and Hospital in the city. But the doctors at the hospital declared her brought dead, the sources said.
The police have registered an unnatural death case and started investigation. Though the identity of the girl has not been ascertained, the police suspected it to be a suicide case.
