Bhubaneswar: Even the most complex mathematical problems on earth can be solved with ease and fun if the concepts are clear. That’s what a young mathematician from Cuttack, Sabyasachi Rout, believes. And, he is on a mission to make mathematics simpler for youngsters who suffer from ‘mathematics phobia.
The 23-year-old, who has featured in India Book of Records for having authored two books on mathematics at a young age, now runs a café for mathematics in Cuttack. He not just teaches mathematics in his café but ‘serves’ it to students. For the underprivileged, he gives free coaching in mathematics.
At his café, he teaches the subjects to about 47 students presently. Out of these students, at least eight students—belonging to underprivileged families—are taught for free.
Being a foodie himself, Rout has combined his passion for food with mathematics. “In my café, I also offer food to the students to grab their attention and attract them to attend the classes. I don’t want their love for mathematics to fade away,” he said.
He has been teaching ever since he passed the matriculation examination himself. An international mathematics Olympiad trainer, Rout has completed MSc in mathematics from SOA University and is now pursuing a doctorate in the subject.
His book, ‘NCERT Mathematics Solutions for Class X’ helped him become a member of the Indian Mathematical Society, one of the oldest organisations in the country that works for the promotion of the subject and encourages research in the field. In his book, he has tried to simplify the complex problems of real numbers, polynomials, arithmetic, etc.
“Leaving one or two, most students in my batch have secured medals in Mathematical Olympiad. I help them to decode and deconstruct complicated equations, formulas and problems. You need to know a few tricks to be a master of the subject,” he said.
