Bhawanipatna: A midnight quarrel over contract work escalated into gunshot near Dayanidhi Chhak in Bhawanipatna town of Odisha’s Kalahandi district, creating panic among residents.
As per police, three youths were initially detained for questioning. After a thorough investigation, police arrested Yashobanta Nayak of BBC Pada in Bhawanipat
na, for firing a blank shot during the altercation.
The dispute began when Yashobanta pointed a gun at another youth’s head during the heated argument. Subsequently, there was a blank fire that startled bystanders. The bullet discharged into the air, sparking panic in the area.
On being informed, a police team rushed to the spot and launched an inquiry. Investigators seized two illegal firearms from Yashobanta’s possession. After completing preliminary interrogation, he was arrested by the police.
Police said investigation is underway to ascertain as to how the accused procured the firearms and for what purpose they were being kept. Police are also examining whether others were involved in the incident. Further probe is underway.
