Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has arrested a youth in connection with a bank fraud in Cuttack.
The accused, identified as Jayant Kumar Jena, was arrested on Wednesday night. He is a native of Rajkanika area in Kendrapara district .
According to EOW sources, a case was registered against the accused following a complaint by senior manager of Allahabad Bank, Nayasarak Branch in Cuttack, in the matter of fraudulently availing loan to the tune of Rs 2.26 crore by 85 loanees under ‘Sarala Loan’ scheme during December 2009 to March 2010 on the basis of forged documents in collision with establishment officer, office of chief engineer, drainage, Gandarpur-Cuttack, Rabindra Kumar Jena.
Investigations revealed that Jayant had availed Rs 3 lakh loan by impersonating as the junior clerk in the office of the chief engineer, drainage, Gandarpur, Cuttack.
Earlier, as many as 23 accused persons were arrested in this connection. Besides, 26 others have been arrested and released on bail on different dates under the orders issued by the Orissa High Court.
Meanwhile, the JMFC, Cuttack, has convicted the accused Rabindra Kumar Jena after completion of trial against him.
