Bhubaneswar: A youth has been arrested by the Cyber Police of Bhubaneswar for allegedly posting abusive, indecent and objectionable remarks against Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The accused, identified as Biswajit Sahu of Jagatpur area in Kataka, was arrested following probe into a complaint lodged by the media cell of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state.
Police said Sahu used offensive languages and shared false and misleading contents online w
ith an intent to tarnish the image of the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister.
The 22-year-old accused posted some AI generated videos and contents targeting the two leaders in his social media account ‘Mr Biswa’, they added.
Police will soon write to the authorities of social media platform Instagram to delete those objectionable posts, said Cyber police ACP Suchismita Das.
Police seized a phone used for operating the Instagram account. screenshots and downloaded copies of the alleged objectionable posts and reels/videos and digital evidence collected during investigation.
She said the public should exercise responsibility while using social media platforms. Creation or circulation of AI-generated, morphed, obscene or defamatory content may attract penal consequences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000.
Citizens are urged to verify online information before sharing and to refrain from creating or forwarding unlawful digital content. Any objectionable or unlawful online activity may be reported to the nearest Police Station or through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
