Keonjhar: A youth has been arrested for allegedly duping several women on the plea of facilitating Aadhaar card link with their bank accounts under Odisha government’s Subhadra scheme in Keonjhar district.
According to sources, the eligible women beneficiaries of Benamunda and Raisuan under Telkoi police station in the district had gone to Mo Seva Kendras in their villages to link their Aadhaar card numbers with the bank accounts to avail the benefits of the Subhadra scheme on October 4.
After filling up necessary forms for the purpose, they received messages from respective banks about withdrawal of entire amount from their accounts. Later, they filed complaints in this regard at the police station.
Suspecting the role of cyber frauds in the matter, district SP formed a special police team to investigate the case. Following preliminary investigation, the team arrested Rama Munda of Kalanda village under Nayakot police limits.
During questioning, Munda revealed that he was in contact with some cyber frauds for some time. These frauds had given a URL link to the employees of the two Mo Seva Kendras. They had told them to click on the link and provide the Aadhaar numbers of the beneficiaries. Each employee was assured of Rs 30 for one such click.
The police have started an exercise to trace the cyber frauds on the basis of the details provided about them by Munda during questioning. Munda was forwarded court on Monday following his arrest.
