Bhubaneswar: Five days after being critically injured in an attack by a group of miscreants in Nayapalli area of Bhubaneswar, a youth succumbed to injuries on Thursday while undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The deceased, identified as Jitun Das alias Babul of Nayapalli Nua Sahi, was working as a driver. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital following the murderous attack, which had taken place on a busy road on December 27. He was sitting outside his house
when the miscreants brutally attacked him.
While Nayapalli police registered a murder case following his death, investigation into the incident is in progress.
Sources said Babul was sitting outside his house when around five persons stormed the site in an auto rickshaw and allegedly attacked him with sharp weapons. He was immediately rushed to Capital Hospital and later shifted to a private hospital for advanced treatment. Police were informed soon after the incident and reached the spot.
Police said that previous enmity was suspected to have led to the crime. Sources said the deceased and the accused had an altercation during Ganesh Puja last year, following which a complaint was reportedly filed with Capital Police.
While five accused are stated to be absconding, police detained a minor for allegedly assisting the attackers and sent him to a correctional home.
