Balangir: A 25-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his friends in Odisha’s Balangir district on Friday night.
The incident took place at Rinbachan village under Sadar police station limits in Balangir. The deceased has been identified as Deepak Naik.
According to sources, Deepak and his friends were having a party and consuming alcohol together last night.
During the party, an altercation broke out and the youth was attacked by friends.
Deepak’s brother told a local news channel, “My brother went out saying he had to recharge his phone. When he did not return at night, I went out to look for him. During the search, my brother was found lying down injured while one of his friends was hitting him. It was dark so I could not see if anybody else was there.”
Deepak’s body was recovered which has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Police have launched an investigation and detained six persons in connection with the incident.
They are being questioned to ascertain the circumstances surrounding Deepak’s death.
Some villagers blamed the sale and consumption of country-made liquor for the unfortunate incident.
