Balasore: A young man was allegedly beaten to death on the suspicion of having committed theft at a garment shop at a village in Odisha’s Balasore district on Monday.
As per information, the incident took place at Sartha village under the jurisdiction of Singla police station in the district. The deceased has been identified as Trilochan Pradhan (32) of the village.
Some burglars had reportedly stolen cash and clothes from the garment shop on Sunday night.
Suspecting the involvement of Trilochan and his associates in the theft, the shopkeeper, his family members and some locals allegedly attacked the youth and three others – Satish Singh (35), Tapua Mahanti (31) and Tapan Pradhan (19) – with iron rods and sticks after tying them to an electric pole at Odishala Square on Monday morning.
Sources said Trilochan died in the attack, while the other three persons were rescued and rushed to a hospital at Basta with multiple injuries.
The injured were later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) at Balasore as their condition deteriorated.
After getting information, a team from Singla police station visited the village and launched a probe into the incident.
