Bhubaneswar: Members of Youth Congress and Odisha unit of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) took to the streets in Odisha capital on Thursday and burnt the effigy of Sports Secretary Vishal Dev.
The protesters demanded an apology from the bureaucrat over his alleged misbehavior to a private TV channel journalist and goof-up in ticket sale for the inaugural ceremony of Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup.
NSUI leader Kiran Sahoo alleged misappropriation of crores of rupees in the preparations of the mega event.
The Congress activists also alleged rampant corruption in online booking of tickets for the World Cup scheduled to begin from November 28. They also raised slogans against the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and the Sports Secretary and scuffled with the police.
To maintain law and order situation, police detained several members of the party.
