Bhubaneswar: Raj Mahal Square in Odisha capital turned a battle ground on Friday as Congress workers allegedly hurled eggs and tomatoes at police while heading towards Naveen Niwas, the residence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
According to sources, Indian Youth Congress national president BV Srinivas landed in Bhubaneswar this morning. He held a public meeting near Congress Bhawan, following which youth Congress activists marched in a huge rally towards Naveen Niwas, protesting against unemployment and ‘poor’ law-and-order situation in the state. A scuffle soon broke up near Raj Mahal Square as the activists tried to break the police barricades. They also hurled eggs and tomatoes at the cops.
Several protestors were taken into police custody following the scuffle.
“Our president has come to pose question to Naveen Patnaik over rising unemployment in the state. The agitation will continue till we dethrone the government,” said a Congress activist.
