Balangir: Members of Youth Congress on Saturday staged a black flag demonstration before three ministers who had gone to inaugurate bridges in Odisha’s Balangir in protest against state government’s negligence towards the district.
According to sources, ministers Tukuni Sahu, Priti Ranjan Ghadei and Sarada Prasad Nayak had gone to the district to participate in the foundation day function of DAV Autonomous College at Titlagarh. After attending the function, the three ministers proceeded towards laying the foundation stones of 3 bridges proposed to be built in Parasara panchayat in the district.
On the way, some members of the Youth Congress staged black flag demonstration before the carcade of the ministers. They also raised slogans against the state government for neglecting Titlagarh and failing to take up various welfare projects.
The Youth Congress members said the government had shifted the proposed barrage over Undera river in Krushuda despite the locals’ long-standing demand for irrigation facility. Besides, they alleged large scale irregularities in Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance and construction of a new bus stand.
The Youth Congress workers also reiterated the demand for district status to Titlagarh. However, the ministers proceeded to their destinations after the police dispersed the agitating Congress activists.
