Boudh: A youth was critically injured after the Sarpanch of his village allegedly opened fire at him in Odisha’s Boudh district.
As per information, the Sarpanch of Kusarabandh in Manmunda police station limit allegedly shot at the youth late on Friday over some past enmity. The victim has been identified as Rajendra Karn of the village.
Locals said the family members of the Sarpanch, identified as Saroj Karn, had been at odds with the injured youth over a dispute.
Their rivalry took an ugly turn following a heated altercation. In a fit of rage, the sarpanch allegedly fired in the air first and then shot two rounds, hitting Rajendra’s legs. Subsequently, Saroj, along with his father and brother, allegedly assaulted Rajendra with sticks, leaving him grievously injured.
Rajendra was rushed to Manamunda Community Health Centre (CHC) by his family for treatment. He was later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Boudh. As his condition deteriorated, he was reportedly shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla.
The youth’s family later filed a complaint against Saroj at Manamunda police station seeking stringent action, the sources added.
