Berhampur: A youth was critically injured after being brutally attacked by unidentified miscreants in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Tuesday morning.
Police said the incident took place at Bendalia village under the jurisdiction of Berhampur Sadar police station. Victim Pintu Sethi was allegedly assaulted with sharp weapons by Bhalu alias Sibasankar Sahu of the same village along with three unidentified associates due to previous grudge and enmity.
The incident occurred on the outskirts of Bendalia near a bridge. The victim was proceeding alone on his motorcycle towards Kukudakhandi area for work when he was followed and interce
pted by the accused persons.
Pintu sustained severe injuries on his hand and head. He was shifted to hospital by his younger brother. After preliminary treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur, he was referred to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. His condition is stated to be stable now.
A team from Sadar Police Station rushed to the spot after receiving information and launched an investigation. Berhampur SP and Sadar SDPO also visited the site.
Pintu’s family has filed a complaint about the attack and named some persons, who could be behind the attack.
During Danda jatra in the village, two groups of the village had clashed with each other earlier. It is suspected that the rival group could have planned and orchestrated the coordinated attack on Pinku.
Police said eyewitnesses who were out for morning walk have been identified. The accused persons have absconded from the spot.
Police have intensified patrolling in the area and raids are continuing to apprehend the accused. Further investigation is underway.
