Cuttack: A youth died and two others fell ill while while running the 1600 metres as part of test for the constable post at the Odisha Swift Action Force (OSAP) Seventh Battalion Ground here on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Suresh Pradhan (20), a native of Narsinghpur in Cuttack district. He died of suspected cardiac arrest.
According to sources, Pradhan and the two others were immediately rushed to the SCB Medical College and Hospital. Pradhan breathed his last while undergoing treatment in the government hospital.
The other two candidates are undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical.
As the news of his death reached his village, the locals staged a road blockade on Narsinghpur-Cuttack road alleging that he died because of delay in treatment and demanding adequate compensation. The road blockade was withdrawn after local administration provided Rs 10,000 from Red Cross fund and an additional financial assistance of Rs 2,000 under Harishchandra Yojana to the family of the deceased.
