Puri: A youth died after falling into a drain, the slabs on which were reportedly removed for cleaning, near Market Chhak of Badadanda in Odisha’s Puri town on Wedensday.
The identity of the deceased is yet to be known.
On being informed, Kumbharpada police reached the spot and recovered the body. An investigation is on to ascertain the circumstances leading to his death.
Locals, however, blamed the administration for the death of the youth. They alleged that their repeated pleas to get the drains covered had fallen on deaf ears. “We have been dialling the local authorities for the last five days, but they are not responding to our calls. Due to their apathetic attitude, an innocent life was lost today,” said an irate local.
