Rayagada: A youth reportedly died during Shivratri celebration in a temple in Odisha’s Rayagada district on Friday.
According to sources, the youth, identified as Srikant Goud of Amba village under Kalyansinghpur, had gone to offer puja along with his family in the Shiva temple atop a hill at Devagiri near his village in the morning. While trekking through the hill, he slipped and fell from a height.
The volunteers and police deployed at the shrine rushed him to the community health centre at Kalyanshinghpur. But the doctors declared him brought dead.
On being informed, police went to the CHC and sent the body for post-mortem. They have registered a case of unnatural death and started information.
As there is only a walking path to the Shiva shrine at Devagiri, the devotees have to walk on a narrow path through bushes and huge stones to the top of the hill. Considering the threat posed by lack of secured barricades, the locals have demanded a road or steps to the temple.
