Youth Dies Of Burns After Self-Immolation Bid In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A youth, who attempted self-immolation at Kesura village under Badgada police limits in Bhubaneswar, succumbed to his burn injuries while undergoing treatment at Capital Hospital here on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Laxman Pradhan. The incident took place on Tuesday.

In a CCTV footage, which has gone viral, Laxman can be seen getting off his scooter outside his house in the morning and then pouring petrol before setting himself afire. A man is also seen running towards him in an attempt to save him, but in vain.

Sources said that he was then rushed to Capital Hospital in critical condition.

On being informed, Badagada police reached the spot and the hospital and launched an investigation. While the reason as to why Laxman took the drastic step is yet to be ascertained, neighbours attributed it to a possible family dispute.
