Rourkela: A youth reportedly drowned while taking bath in river Sankh on the outskirts of the city during a picnic on Sunday.
According to reports, 15 youths of Madhusudanpalli in the city had gone on a picnic to a spot at Chikanmati on the banks of the river on the day. While others were making arrangements, five of them went for a bath in the river.
While bathing, the youths were driven into deep water by strong current in the river. As they started drowning and cried for help, the locals swam across and rescued four of them. But they could not trace the fifth youth.
On being informed, Fire Brigade reached the spot and its personnel started search operation. After a long search, they spotted the body of the youth floating in the water. He has been identified as Trilochan Mahakud.
The rescued youths have been admitted in Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH).
