Bhadrak: Another person of Odisha has fallen victim to cyber fraud and lost Rs 20,000 from his bank account.
As per reports, the victim, identified as Srikant Kumar Swain of Baudpur under Bhadrak Rural police station, had received a message on his mobile phone about a gift card. As soon as he clicked on the link provided in the message, his phone stopped functioning for some time.
Later, Srikant received a message from his bank that Rs 20,000 had been debited from his account. When he tried to check his balance on UPI, the app did not open.
Suspecting that he had become a victim of cyber fraud, he contacted the bank. On enquiring about the withdrawal of Rs 20,000, the bank officials told him that the amount had been withdrawn in the name of Brand Voucher.
On the request of Srikant, the bank officials stopped making payment from his account. Later, he filed a complaint at Cyber police station in Bhadrak.
It may be noted that several persons in the state including twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack had been duped of money by the cyber frauds.
