Bolangir: A youth was found dead under mysterious conditions near a bridge in Odisha’s Balangir town on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Chintu Karan of Balangir town. Alleging that the youth was murdered in a planned way, his family has demanded a thorough probe into his death.
Sources said Chintu left home with a friend identified as Situ Swain, on Sunday. But when he did not return home till late night, his family members were worried. They called up Situ and enquired about their son. Situ convinced them they both would be returning soon.
However, Situ reached Chintu’s house in the wee hours of Monday and informed the family that he (Chintu) had been hit by a vehicle. When they immediately rushed to the spot, they found Chintu’s lifeless body lying at Laxmi Jor Bridge in a pool of blood.
Chintu’s brother Mantu Karan said, “Four people were standing near the body and there was also an iron rod lying near nearby. The four men fled the spot when they saw us.”
He further added, “Chintu’s death can’t be an accident. It appears to be a pre-planned murder. Only a police investigation can unfold the truth.”
Based on the complaint lodged by the bereaved family, Balangir police visited the spot with a scientific team and sent the body for post mortem.
Pradip Kumar Sahu, SDPO of Balangir said, “We had a preliminary investigation and have sent the body for post mortem. The deceased’s family has lodged a complaint alleging it to be a murder. But unless we receive the post mortem report, it would not be possible to draw an inference.“
