Baripada: A young boy went missing while bathing in Baitarani river of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Sunday.
According to sources, the boy, identified as Biswajit Das of Balikuda in Jagatsinghpur district, along with five other youths had come on a picnic to Bhimkund, a tourist spot in the district in the morning.
They went for a bath in the river at Sana Kunda around noon. While bathing, 19-year-old Biswajit’s feet slipped and he was pulled into deep water by a strong current. After waiting for some time, when he did not come out of water, others informed the locals.
A team from Thakurmunda police station along with Fire services personnel also went to the spot after being informed and started a search operation for Biswajit in the river. But they failed to trace him.
The IIC of the police station, Sabitri Dalei said if they failed to find the missing youth, they would seek the help of ODRAF on Monday morning.
A diploma holder, Biswajit was working a vehicle showroom in Bhubaneswar, the sources said.
