Berhampur: In a gruesome incident, a youth was allegedly hacked to death while he was sleeping at home at a village in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
As per preliminary reports, the incident took place at Pandia village under the jurisdiction of Purushottampur police station in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
The deceased, identified as Murali Badatya, was sleeping in his house on Friday night, while his father was sleeping on the verandah. When his father went inside to have water in the late hours, he found his son lying in a pool of blood.
The youth was immediately rushed to Hinjilicut Sub-Divisional Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
It is suspected that Murali was attacked by someone with a sharp weapon in his sleep and fled the scene.
On being informed, Purushottampur police reached the village for an investigation into the incident.
Though the reason behind the murder is obscure and miscreants are at large, a clash that occurred two days back during ‘danda’ dance at the village is suspected to have led to the crime.
