Youth Held For Allegedly Attempting To Rape Widow

Malkangiri: A youth was detained on Wednesday on charges of attempting to rape a widow at Kalimela area in Malkangiri district.
The accused has been identified as Uma Charan Barei. Another accused, Bidhan Sutar, who reportedly was also involved in the incident, has been absconding.
According to sources, the victim lodged a complaint at the MV-79 police station on Tuesday. The incident took place when the victim was on her way to Kalimela for some work on Saturday evening. The accused duo offered her lift and took her to an isolated place. They allegedly attempted to rape her there.
Based on the complaint, the police detained Barei for interrogation.
Further investigation into the matter is on. The police are trying to nab the second accused.
