Puri: A youth was detained on Tuesday after he was found clicking pictures inside Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri, using a pair of cameras attached to his spectacles.
The 12th-century shrine strictly prohibits mobile phones and cameras within its premises.
The youth, identified as Abhishit Kar, is from Gajapati Nagar here.
According to sources, security personnel deployed near the Beherana Dwara grew suspicious when the camera light flashed and a closer inspection revealed that he had entered the temple with camera-equipped glasses, which was reportedly transmitting footage directly to his mobile phone. He had identified himself as a sevayat.
He was immediately handed over Singhadwara police for questioning.
It remains uncertain whether he successfully took or sent any photos or videos from within the temple. Authorities are still investigating the motive and potential involvement of others.
The event, however, has raised alarms about the misuse of advanced spy devices in highly secure religious locations, where photography and videography are strictly prohibited.
This is second such incident reported at the shrine this year. In March, a 26-year-old tourist from West Bengal was arrested for allegedly capturing footage of deities inside the Jagannath Temple in Puri using a spy camera.
