Kolkata: Police have arrested a youth for allegedly raping a 100-year-old woman in West Bengal’s Nadia district.
The accused has been identified as Abhijit Biswas (21). He was produced in a sub-divisional court in Kalyani on Wednesday and sent to 14-day judicial custody.
“The incident took place on Monday night. The accused was caught by the family members of the old woman. A complaint was filed yesterday,” an officer of the Chakdah police station said.
The incident took place in Ganga Prasadpur village, about 65 km away from Kolkata. Following which, the woman’s son had lodged a complaint against Biswas, a neighbour, at Chakdaha police station.
“Section 376 (rape) of IPC (Indian Penal Code) has been slapped against him,” the officer said, adding that the victim also underwent a medical examination on Tuesday.
