Bhubaneswar: The Customs Department’s Air Intelligence Team foiled another drug smuggling bid and seized hydroponic weed (marijuana) worth Rs 7 crore from a youth at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
The youth, who landed here from Bangkok, has been detained for questioning.
This is third such seizure this month and comes just two four days after marijuana valued at Rs 4 crore was seized from the checked-in baggage with eight vacuum-packed transparent poly bags with greenish and lumpy substances concealed inside the corn flakes packets, of a passenger, who landed her from Bangkok on January 14.
On January 6, two women passengers coming from Kuala Lumpur were arrested for allegedly possessing 9.524 kg of marijuana. Officials found 19 vacuum packed transparent packets, containing marijuana worth a whopping Rs 9.52 crore, in the checked-in baggages.
