Bhubaneswar: A youth, posing as a doctor from AIIMS Bhubaneswar, was on Friday arrested on charges of defrauding a bank in Nayapalli area of Rs 17.5 lakh. The accused, Siddhartha Swayam Rout (25) is a resident of Paikasahi under Gopalpur PS in Cuttack Sadar.
According to a press note, Jogendranath Nayak, Chief Manager of Bank of Baroda, Nayapalli Branch, had lodged a written police complaint about the fraud.
Investigation revealed that Rout had produced forged salary slips along with forged bank account statements at the bank while availing a car loan of Rs 17.5 lakh. He also purchased a luxury car (KIA Seltos), the press note mentioned.
The accused was produced before the court of Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate, Bhubaneswar. The police have asked for a 15-day remand of the accused and urged the court not to grant him bail.
