Khurda: Irate people of Khajuria village under Nirakarpur police station limits in Odisha’s Khurda district staged a road blockade on Jagannath Sadak Road following the death of a youth of their village by a group of youths of Badangara village in the afternoon on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Santosh Patra while the three seriously injured youths have been admitted to the district headquarters hospital. However, one of the youths was shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar after his condition became critical.
Sources said the deceased with his three friends were sitting at a place at the village square in the afternoon. In the meanwhile, some youths of Badaranga village while passing through the road had an altercation with the four youths. The situation turned violent when some youths of Badaranga village attacked these four youths with sharp weapons. While Santosh Patra died on the spot, the three youths were seriously injured.
Tension ran high in Khajuria village following the incident as the irate villagers staged a road blockade on Jagannath Sadak Road connecting Puri demanding immediate arrest of the assailants.
As vehicular traffic was disrupted, a team of Nirakarpur police rushed to the village and tried to pacified the villagers but to no avail.
The road blockade is still on till reports last came in.
