Kendrapara: A youth went missing after he was attacked by an estuarine crocodile while bathing in the Brahmani river at Mandapada village in Pattamundai block of Odisha’s Kendrapara district on Sunday morning.
Reports said that Sanjay Pradhan had gone to bathe in the river when a crocodile pulled him into the deep waters. Some residents standing on the river bank tried to save the youth but failed.
As the news reached the village, people rushed to the river bank. Some other residents launched a search operation on a country boat.
Till reports last came in, neither the police nor fire service personnel had reached the spot. Such incidents had also been reported from areas adjacent to the Bhitarkanika National Park during June and July last year. This is the breeding season for estuarine crocodiles and they tend to become aggressive and attack people.
