Youth Rescued From Swollen Ib River In Odisha, Another Stranded In Subarnarekha

Bhubaneswar: A young man got stranded on an islet in the middle of swollen Subarnarekha River which in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district amid huge inflow following heavy rainfall.

As per sources, the incident took place near Merumatha village under Saraskana block of the district, where a rising water level has reportedly snapped access to the mainland.

The youth had been staying on the islet for cattle grazing and fishing. However, he remained stranded after the water level in the river rose suddenly. Strong river current and inclement weather hampered rescue efforts.

On being informed, fire service personnel from Saraskana and Bangriposhi rushed to the spot and are making continuous efforts to rescue the man safely.

In another similar incident in Sundargarh district, a youth who had been stranded on a small island near an under-construction bridge over the Ib River near Kudabaga was successfully rescued.

As per information, the youth, stated to be a watchman of a barrage, had fallen asleep on the riverbed and was found surrounded by water after the river waver level rose overnight.

Fire services responded promptly and managed to rescue the individual to safety without any injuries.

Authorities have advised residents, especially those living near rivers and low-lying areas, to exercise caution during the monsoon season, as water levels may rise unexpectedly due to upstream rainfall.
