Youth Riding Bike Washed Away In Floodwaters In Odisha

Phulbani: A youth was swept away along with his motorcycle while crossing a flooded bridge on a river near Phulbani in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.

The incident happened on Wednesday night when the youth riding a motorcycle was trying to cross the bridge over Salunki river which was in spate following heavy rains in the region.

As around four feet high water was flowing on the bridge, the youth was swept away along with his bike by the strong current, sources said, adding that the youth was apparently unable to assess the flow of water on the bridge due to darkness.

After being informed about the incident by onlookers, the fire services personnel rushed to the site and launched a search operation to trace the youth.

The river bridge connects Nadikhandisahi and Dakapala areas near Phulbani.
